Update on Spike – a few weeks in the Kennels

Everyone, say hi to Spike. Our newest arrival at the kennels near Rotherham, this handsome boy has already stolen our hearts.

Having spent the last 5 years in a loving but busy family home, Spike has joined us in search of a quieter, less hectic home. It was a heart breaking decision for his family to make, but ultimately, they knew it was the best one for Spike.

Spike arrived with us a few weeks ago and has spent his time settling in, getting to know our wonderful team of volunteers and exploring his new local area. And, of course, posing for lots of photos — this boy is a natural!

All the volunteers working with Spike at Rotherham Kennels have completely fallen in love with him. They describe him as having a gentle but loving personality, and his face? Well, it's “just adorable!”

Spike loves playing with his squeaky toys and heading out on walks with the volunteers. He's also been learning to settle in new environments, including trips to cafés. We have a feeling he'll be a big fan of pup cups soon enough!

Like many dogs adjusting to a big change in their lives, Spike can be a little nervous in unfamiliar places and around traffic sounds. But after just a few weeks with the team, our volunteers are already seeing some lovely progress. He's learning his recall and “yes” markers, while continuing to build his confidence when exploring new places and experiences.

Having lived in a home for five years, it's remarkable just how well Spike has adapted to kennel life and everything that comes with it. He's taken the changes in his stride and is showing us more of his lovely personality every day.

Now, we're looking for the next chapter for this special boy: a loving, cosy home where Spike can be the only dog. Somewhere quieter and less hectic, where he can settle into family life again, continue building his confidence and, most importantly, feel safe and loved.
